iBomma Ravi Arrested: Inside India’s Biggest Movie Piracy Network-2025
Digital piracy has always been a major threat to the Indian film industry, but the scale at which the iBomma network operated shocked everyone. For years, people across India especially Telugu and South-Indian movie fans depended on iBomma to watch newly released movies for free. What most users didn’t know was that behind this “free streaming website” existed a massive criminal operation involving 21,000 pirated films, 60+ mirror websites, lakhs of user data, and crores of illegal earnings. And at the center of this entire digital empire was one man: Immadi Ravi, popularly known online as iBomma Ravi. His arrest by Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police has finally revealed how the hidden world of online piracy actually works.
What Was the iBomma Piracy Network?
iBomma started as a simple website offering free access to Telugu films, but it quickly grew into a fully structured digital network with professional level backend operations. The platform leaked new movies almost immediately after their theatrical release, attracting millions of monthly visitors. Users loved the site because it offered HD-quality movies with fast servers, something most piracy sites fail to deliver.
To avoid shutdown, the operators created multiple mirror sites. Whenever one domain was blocked by the government or internet providers, another domain went live instantly. This “switching system” helped the network stay active continuously for years. Behind the scenes, iBomma had a huge database containing more than 21,000 pirated films across languages Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Korean, and even Hollywood. The library was updated daily, making it a one-stop hotspot for piracy seekers.

How Did the Network Actually Work?
iBomma was not run by a random hacker. It was a well planned business model with high level setup:
1. Multiple Domains & Mirror Sites
More than 110 domains were registered internationally. These domains were hosted on foreign servers, mostly from Europe, the US, and the Middle East. This helped them escape Indian jurisdiction.

2. Cloudflare Protection
The iBomma team used Cloudflare to hide original server IP addresses. This made it extremely difficult for police to track the exact location of the servers.

3. User Data Collection
The most shocking part is that the network stored data of nearly 50 lakh users. This included:
- IP addresses
- Device details
- Browsing patterns
- Location data
Some reports suggest that the platform even redirected users to illegal betting sites, allowing the operators to earn commission while risking user data.

4. Revenue Through Ads & Betting Links
Even though movies were free to watch, the platform earned crores through:
- Illegal pop-up ads
- Redirect traffic
- Gambling/betting website partnerships
- Selling traffic to third-party networks
Authorities estimate that the operators earned 20+ crore rupees over the years.

Who Is Immadi Ravi?
The alleged mastermind Immadi Ravi, aged around 30–35, belonged to Andhra Pradesh and later lived in Hyderabad. He studied computers, worked with hosting services, and eventually discovered how to exploit loopholes in domain registration and foreign hosting.
He reportedly traveled to:
- Netherlands
- Dubai
- Thailand
- USA
- Switzerland
These trips were allegedly used to set up servers, register international domains, and manage offshore operations. Ravi even applied for foreign citizenship to escape Indian law, thinking this would permanently protect him.

How the Police Finally Caught Him
Despite using advanced hiding techniques, iBomma left a digital footprint. Hyderabad Cyber Crime team began tracking:
Domain payment trails
- Cloudflare configuration logs
- Hosting service metadata
- Bank transactions
- Cryptocurrency movement
After months of surveillance, police raided a flat in Kukatpally, Hyderabad and arrested Ravi on the spot. Authorities seized computers, mobile phones, hard disks, server details, and financial documents. Bank accounts linked to him were frozen, and multiple properties purchased using piracy money are under investigation.

Impact on the Film Industry
Tollywood producers had been fighting the iBomma network for years. Every major movie release was uploaded to iBomma within hours, causing:
- Heavy revenue losses
- Reduced theatre collections
- Piracy spreading worldwide
Many celebrities like Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Rajamouli, and Pawan Kalyan openly welcomed the arrest, calling it a big victory against piracy.

Why iBomma Became So Popular?
Even though it was illegal, users preferred iBomma because:
- Clean and ad-free interface
- HD movies immediately after release
- Fast download servers
- Simple mobile-friendly site
- Telugu-first content strategy
But behind this comfort was a dangerous system risking user privacy and supporting cybercrime.
What Happens Now?
With the arrest of the main operator, police are now:
- Tracking all mirror sites
- Identifying foreign handlers
- Investigating betting app links
- Protecting user data
- Tracing money laundering routes
This case may lead to stronger anti-piracy laws and better cybersecurity measures across India.
Conclusion : (Final My Thought)
The iBomma case proves one important thing nothing “free” on the internet is ever truly free. A simple movie streaming website turned into a massive piracy empire, collecting data of lakhs of innocent users and earning crores illegally. Ravi’s arrest is definitely a big win for the film industry and a major warning for digital criminals who think the internet can hide anything. At the end of the day, supporting original content is the only way to keep our film industries alive and protect ourselves from cyber risks. Piracy might look harmless from the outside, but behind it lies a dark world of data theft, fraud and illegal money.
Stay safe, watch legal, and support creators that’s how we keep the ecosystem clean.
